Variation . The female of this species exhibits a considerable intraspecific variation in punctation of vertex, ocelloocular area and hind femora, degree of development of tergal tomentum spots, and coloration of mesoscutellum and axillae ( Pittoni 1947 ; van Lith 1956 ). In our materials from Siberia and Russian Far East, females exhibit almost no variation in coloration, most of species have entirely red mandibles, labrum, tegulae, axilla and mesoscutellum, pronotal lobe and legs (except of dark spurs and partially brownish coxae) ( Figs 8, 10 ), a few specimens with red apical margin of clypeus, black labrum, axilla and partially black pronotal lobes. In terms of integument coloration, examined specimens correspond to the description of female of Epeolus tarsalis himukanus by Mitai & Tadauchi (2009) , except in having a black hypoepimeral area. Lateral fascia on T2 is complete (not reduced on to lateral spots), but the paired lateral spots on T3 vary in size or rarely are reduced to one spot (Fig, 10). The punctation of the ocello-ocular area slightly varies from entirely confluent to with interspaces ca a half puncture diameter. The punctation of hind femora on anterior surface varies from mostly confluent ( Fig. 4 ) to punctures separated by 1–2 puncture diameters ( Fig. 5 ). In the males lateral fasciae of T3 and T4 are often narrow medially ( Fig. 6 ) and sometimes reduced to paired spots ( Fig. 7 ).
