COMMENTS
: The AMNH number was cited in the original description.
Chapin (1923: 7)
did not say how many specimens he had, but
eight specimens
(including the
holotype
) collected on the Lang–Chapin Expedition and cataloged as
mangbettorum
by Chapin are the only specimens of the taxon in AMNH collected prior to 1923. The
paratypes
are AMNH 159747–159753, from Medje, Niangara, Faradje, and Vankerchovenville.
Chapin (1923: 4)
described Medje as ‘‘a post which occupies a clearing near the northern edge of the Ituri Forest’’.
Sibley and Monroe (1990: 581)
treated
mangbettorum
as a species in the superspecies
pristoptera
.
