Discussion.
Initially, specimens of
N. lanemeloi
from the
type
locality of
Minas Gerais
in southeastern
Brazil
were misidentified as
N. jaczewskii
by
Nieser & Melo (1997)
(
Nieser & Chen 2002
). Subsequently,
Pelli
et al
. (2006)
recorded this species from Serra da Canastra, which is also in
Minas Gerais
. Two years later,
Mazzucconi
et al
. (2008)
recorded for the first time this species from
Argentina
, in the Province of
Misiones
, which borders
Santa Catarina State
in southern
Brazil
where our specimens were collected (
Fig. 18
). Only
N. usingeri
had been recorded in this Brazilian region (
Moreira
et al
. 2011
); thus, this is the second species of
Neotrephes
recorded in southern
Brazil
. Characteristics of the female subgenital plate from
Santa Catarina
(
Fig. 17
) agree exactly with
Figure 11
of
Nieser & Chen (2002)
.
