The following characters are recognized in the
holotype
of
Chironomus toyamabiceus
: small blackish spot on the median portion of scutum; inferior volsella large, oval and flattened; superior volsella long, horn like, with several setae on its basal portion. These features are completely consistent with those of
Kiefferulus umbraticola
.
