Calantica
×
mantinii
Hort.
Revue horticole
[66]: 134 (1894).
This name is listed as such in the International Plant Names Index, extracted from Index Kewensis. It has appeared to be simply an invalidly published horticultural name, which for that reason had never been addressed in prior revisions of the genus. It is rarely mentioned (usually as “mantini”) in entirely uncritical references such as computerized lists of plant names. However, the cited page reference (
Bois 1894: 134
) is largely devoted to a list of recently displayed new orchids, and the only similar name on that page is: “encore une série de
Calanthes:
(...)
Mantini
, à labelle rouge et à divisions supérieures blanches, striées de rose.” It appears that a name intended to describe a new hybrid of the orchid genus
Calanthe
R. Br.
was accidentally entered into Index Kewensis as
Calantica
and the error was never corrected.
