Wingspan 9.0̄1 0.0 mm. Head silvery white. Labial palpus silvery white, segment I fuscous on outer surface; segment II fuscous dorso-distally, hair pencil reaching distal end of II; segment III fuscous and slender, nearly as long as II, pointed at apex. Antenna with scape white; flagellum with dorsal half white, remaining flagellum black; male with cilia slightly longer than width. Thorax silvery white, suffused with fuscous scales post-medially. Tegula silvery white. Forewing with hair pencil reaching basal 3/5; ground color silvery white, with fuscous markings: basal fascia not reaching costa; costal patch inverted triangular or trapezoidal; antemedian fascia slender, somewhat zigzagged, broadly interrupted by silvery white scales below fold; median fascia straight, twice width of antemedian fascia; distal fascia from between 2/3 and 5/6 of costal margin to dorsum, sometimes not reaching dorsum, its inner margin shortly extended toward base along dorsum; subapical spot present. Hindwing dark grey. Legs as in P. pylartis . Pregenital abdomen (Fig. 43). In male, coremata situated interiorly, about 1/2 length of abdomen; sternum VIII moderately large, rounded, slightly concave at middle on posterior margin; tergum VIII with sclerotized edge. Male genitalia (Figs 61, 101). Uncus ovate, sparsely setose at base, distal half with a shallow groove. Culcitula present. Gnathos hook slender and long, curving upward, sharply pointed at apex. Tegumen three times longer than uncus, with a wide patch of papilliform tubercles dorsad medial process (Fig. 61); medial process strongly sclerotized, arising from anterior 1/3: process as long as gnathos hook, widened at base, curved downward, sometimes serrate before apex, pointed at apex;. Valva with costa nearly straight before distal 1/3, slightly curved inward distally; ventral margin constricted basally, gradually widening toward middle, then tapering toward apex, distal half set with long spine-like setae; apex blunt, sparsely covered with short setae. Anellus lobe ovate, about 1/5 length of valva; apical bristle approximately 2/3 length of anellus lobe. Vinculum sub-rectangular, posterior margin broadly concave. Saccus slender, twice length of anellus lobe, gradually tapering toward apex. Aedeagus with basal 2/5 dilated, distal 3/5 slender and curved downward in lateral view, straight in dorsal view, blunt at apex. Female. Unknown. Diagnosis. Palumbina spinevalva sp. nov. has a costal patch on the forewing, which is similar to P. triangularis sp. nov. However, this patch is not confluent with the basal fascia that it follows, while it is confluent in P. triangularis sp. nov. The antemedian fascia is less zigzagged in P. spinevalva sp. nov. than that in related species. In addition, the distal fascia has smoother margin as compared to those of the related species. The male genitalia are characterized by the valva with spine-like setae, and the tegumen with a distinctive medial process and abundant tubercles. Distribution . China ( Hainan ). Etymology . The species name is derived from the Latin spineus (spinous) and valva (valva), referring to the dense margin of spine-like setae on the valva. Variations. The median fascia of the forewing is nearly straight, but it can be slightly curved posteriorly. The medial process of the tegumen is smooth or shortly serrate subapically.
