Balistes punctatus Gmelin, 1789 —Bluespotted triggerfish Recorded from Madeira by Tortonese in Whitehead et al. (1986: 1336) and Harmelin-Vivien & Quéro in Quéro et al. (1990 : 1056-1057 ). This appears a doubtful record that needs confirmation. * Canthidermis sufflamen (Mitchill, 1815) —Ocean triggerfish New record for Madeira. The species appears to have been absent from Madeira until a few years ago. Since 2003 (if not earlier) it regularly appears in Funchal fish market (figure 7) and the fishermen state that it has been caught in Madeira waters. The first author has seen the species during a SCUBA dive at Caniço, south-eastern coast of Madeira. MMF 35194, 35590, 35664.
