Bauhinia tomentosa
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 375. 1753
.
"Habitat in India." RCN: 2953.
Lectotype
(Roti-Michelozzi in
Webbia
13: 153. 1957): [icon] "
Bauhinia
foliis subrotundis, flore flavescente striato
" in Burman, Thes. Zeylan.: 44, t. 18*. 1737. -
Typotype
: Herb. Burman (
G
)
.
Current name:
Bauhinia tomentosa
L.
(
Fabaceae
:
Caesalpinioideae
).
Note:
De Wit (in
Reinwardtia
3: 411. 1956) wrongly chose a
neotype
(original elements are in existence), and so
Roti-Michelozzi's
choice of a Burman plate appears to be the earliest. Although other authors (e.g. Isely in
Mem. New York Bot. Gard.
25(2): 190. 1975; Rudd in Dassanayake & Fosberg,
Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon
7: 38. 1991) reached different type solutions, that of Roti-Michelozzi has priority.
