Remarks:
Cocconeis pellucida
is common in warmer oceans, and is rarely reported in Europe (
Hustedt 1931
– 1959,
Witkowski
et al.
2000
). This taxon has been reported abundantly as epiphytons in the eastern coast of
Japan
, Katsuura (
Takano 1962
), the
Penghu
Island of
Taiwan
, Morlaix Bay, the western coast of
France
(
Riaux-Gobin 1991
), Canary Islands of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, off West Africa (
Gil-Rodríguez
et al.
2003
),
Parana
coast of
Brazil
(
Procopiak
et al.
2006
), the
New Hebrides
(now
Vanuatu
) in the southern Pacific Ocean (
Stidolph
et al.
2012
), and from
Mexico
(
López-Fuerte & Siqueiros-Beltrones 2016
). It was reported previously as plankton in marine waters of
Korea
(
Shim 1994
), and is currently rarely epiphytic on seaweeds along the Seogwipo coast in
Jeju
Island.
