Remarks
: In his important monograph on Mesozoic- Cenozoic Larger Benthic Foraminifera from the area of the Middle East-South-Western Asia,
Henson (1948)
erected the genus
Dictyconella
for more or less "compressed-conical" dictyoconids including the two species
D. complanata
and
D. minima
. Both are however structurally completely different and cannot be assigned to the same genus (see
Schlagintweit et al., 2016b
). A revision is currently under preparation. The type-species
D. complanata
was described from Maastrichtian carbonates of the Simsima Formation of Dukhan No. 1 well of
Qatar
.
Henson (1948
, p. 24–25) noted the presence of a “zone with undivided chamber space” (or marginal ridge) between the marginal (with exoskeleton) and central zones (with endoskeleton; see also
Hottinger, 2006
, p. 22) as described also from
Dictyoconus
Blanckenhorn
by Davies (1938: marginal trough, see
Fig. 4
d-e). There is reference that indicate the presence of
D. complanata
in the Garzan Formation of SE
Turkey
(
Çoruh et al., 1997
), but real evidence is lacking so far.
