Mycterothrips flavens Moulton, 1930 . [Synonymized by Bhatti, 1969: 378 .] Diagnosis : Body uniformly pale. Head distinctly shorter than pronotum; mouth­cone very elongate and slender reaching mesosternum, with slender maxillary palpi. Antennal segment II with some rows of microtrichia ( Fig. 95 ). Mesonotum without CPS anteromedially; median pair of setae near posterior margin. Metascutum with longitudinal anastomosing striae; median pair of setae near anterior margin. Abdominal terga with numerous ciliate microtrichia on lines of sculpture, smooth medially; tergum II with three lateral marginal setae; tergum VIII with B4 setae minute, B4 setae not minute on tergum VII ( Fig. 96 ); tergum IX without CPS and with a few microtrichia on posterior margin medially; sternum II to VII with some discal setae in addition to six setae on posterior margin, and 5–17 discal setae in arranged irregular line at middle of sterna ( Fig. 97 ). South Africa : 1 female , Transvaal , Groblersdal , Gossypium hirsutum , 15­xii­1981 , R . zur Strassen ( SMF ). Tchad : 1 female , Tikem, 7­ix­1958 , cotton, A. Bournier ( TUA ) . Comments . One female studied here from Tchad had been identified as M. acaciae , but it was recognized as M. laticauda here by the above character states.
