Remarks
. This species was discovered in Sagami Bay,
Japan
, by
Sakai (1963)
and another specimen was added by
Sakai (1976)
. For many years these remained the only records of the species until
McLay (1999)
reported a further
19 specimens
from several IndoWest Pacific localities. At that time all of these specimens were attributed to
P. tuberculata
Sakai, 1963
, but a revision by
McLay & Ng (2004)
recognized six species, two of which occur at Balicasag:
P. quasimodo
McLay & Ng, 2004
, and
P. tuberculata
. The depth range of
P. tuberculata
is
85 to 402 m
and for
P. quasimodo
it is
205 to
377 m
. Because the Balicasag specimens were caught in tangle nets, we do not have a precise depth for them.
Distribution
.
P tuberculata
is known from
Japan
as well as the Philippine and Loyalty Islands.
