Distribution. Palaearctic. Material examined. 250 specimens ( KUMN , SZIK , ZIN , ZMUN , SIZK ) including: Zhytomyr Prov. : 1 spec. ( SIZK ) Zhytomyr , G. Proschiga leg., 30.v.1922 ; 5 spec. ( SIZK ) idem, 14.v.1925 ; 1 spec. ( SIZK ) Korostyshiv env., V . K. Odnosum leg., 7.vi.1977 . Biology. Forests, floodplains, ruderal habitats. Adults occur in IV–VII. Feeds mostly on Urtica dioica (Urticaceae) , but recorded from many other plants. Note . This polymorphous species is represented by two subspecies occasionally considered as separate species: Ph. pomaceus pomaceus occurring in Europe, and Ph . pomaceus fessus Boh. occurring in Siberia. Ph . fessus has recently been recorded from Poland , that obviously based on misidentified specimens of Ph. jacobsoni .
