Species:
Onisimus edwardsii
Krøyer, 1846
.
[monotypic]
Remarks
This group, consisting of just one species, is part of the larger group characterised by a cleft
telson
(see above), and is possibly a transitional taxon between the
sextonae
- and
barentsi
-groups: The peduncle of the first antenna is not produced anterodistally, thereby linking this group to the
sextonae
-group (see also
Vader
et al.
2005
). However, the distomedial margin of the palp of the first maxilla is not serrate, thus separating this group from the
barentsi
-group (above). In addition, the
telson
of the species within this group is not as deeply cleft as in the two other groups.
During our examination of North American Atlantic material of
O. edwardsii
, we discovered a previously undescribed taxon closely related to
O. edwardsii
. Due to lack of material, this new species will not be treated herein.
