Scrobipalpa otregata
Povolný, 1972
Records.
Povolný (1972: 189)
Remarks.
Povolný (1972: 189)
described
Scrobipalpa otregata
from three females: the
holotype
from the
Elburs
Mts in
Iran
, and two
paratypes
from
Palestine
. The
paratypes
were stated in the original description (
Povolný 1972: 191
) to be in poor condition: “Das eine Weibschen ist stark abgeflogen, … Die beide Falter sind stark from Hyphen eines Myceliums bewachsen” [One of the females is strongly worn, ... Both moths are strongly overgrown by fungal hyphae].
Parts of the female genitalia of all three type specimens were figured in the original description. From these it is clear that the
paratypes
from
Palestine
(op cit.: 193, fig. 9, 196, fig. 20) are not conspecific with the
holotype
from
Iran
(op cit.: 196, fig. 16), which would also have been surprising as the latter was found at an altitude of
1650 m
, whereas Jericho is situated at low elevation. Instead they belong
Scrobipalpa superstes
, a species mainly distributed in western Mediterranean countries, but also found further to the east (see under that species).
