China (Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Guangdong, Sichuan, Yunnan), Australia , New Zealand , Indonesia (Java), New Caledonia . Note. This name was synonymised with N. pallida (Evans) by Day & Fletcher (1994) . They suggested that the widespread use of N. pallida , particularly in relation to its disease transmission in economic plants, justified an application to the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) for preservation of the younger name over N. phryne . However, no submission was subsequently made (M.J. Fletcher, personal communication, 2010) and Nesosteles phryne Kirkaldy as the senior synonym of N. pallida still has priority.
