Loneura monserrate
n. sp.
(
Figs 41–50
)
Diagnosis.
Belonging in Group I, Subgroup IB (
García Aldrete
et al
. 2011 b
). Differing from the species in that group (see above, under
L. dapaensis
and
L. deibyi
) by having the posterior projections of the central sclerite of the hypandrium robust, constricted proximally, and distally with the inner border extended to form a curved, pointed process; also, each half bears a distinct mesal tuft of long macrosetae, and a lateral group of long macrosetae.
Male. Color
(in 80% ethanol). Body dark brown. Head (
Fig. 42
) with two oblique dark brown bands, from the inner margin of each compound eye to epistomal sulcus, surrounding the antennal fossae. Compounds eyes brown ochre, almost black; ocelli hyaline. Vertex with irregular brown spots on each side of the epicranial sulcus and near each compound eye. Postclypeus with convergent brown bands as illustrated, forming a broad, V-shaped area. Anteclypeus pale brown. Labrum dark brown. Genae with pale brown front half, posterior half pale cream. Postgenae pale cream. Antennae: scape and pedicel brown; flagellum pale brown.
Mx
1–2 pale cream;
Mx
3 brown;
Mx
4 brown, with dark brown apical third. Meso- and metathoracic tergal lobes dark brown. Thoracic pleura dark brown, with small white spots. Legs: fore- and mid coxae and trochanters brown; hind coxae and trochanters creamy; fore- femora cream, with basal third brown; mid femora brown, with basal third cream; hind femora pale brown, with brown spot dorsally in the middle; tibiae pale brown, darker distally; tarsi 1 pale brown; tarsi 2–3 dark brown. Forewings hyaline, with a marginal brown band, from R4+5 to distal half of 1A; pterostigma brown, with a central hyaline area. R2+3 with a brown spot at wing margin. Hindwings almost hyaline, with pale brown spots at vein ends. Abdomen creamy, with dark brown sides, dorsally with brown spots. Hypandrium dark brown. Epiproct and paraprocts pale cream.
Morphology.
As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head (
Fig. 42
) H/MxW: 1.44; large compound eyes, H/d: 2.15; IO/MxW: 0.67; vertex below the level of the upper margin of the compound eyes; outer cusp of lacinial tip broad, with 9–10 denticles. Forewings (
Fig. 41
), L/W: 2.66; pterostigma: lp/wp: 5.06; M six branched; areola postica: la/ha: 1.39, high, apically rounded. Hindwings (
Fig. 41
) l/w: 2.86; M two branched. Central sclerite of hypandrium (
Fig. 44
), anteriorly straight, sides sclerites elongate, setose, well separated from the central sclerite. Phallosome (
Fig. 45
) anteriorly Y-shaped, with short central stem; side struts with rounded processes proximally, on inner edges; external parameres elongate, distally rounded; two pairs of endophallic sclerites; anterior pair stout, bow-shaped, each arm with a proximal process directed inwards, distally curved outwards, with small processes on outer border. Posterior pair with arms fused in the middle, projected posteriorly, distally elongate, and slender. Paraprocts (
Fig. 43
) broad, elongate, with long and short setae; sensory fields with 23–24 trichobothria on basal rosettes. Epiproct (
Fig. 43
) anteriorly concave, posteriorly rounded, setae as illustrated.
