The first Korean species of Euconnus (Cladoconnus), with a synopsis of the E. ussuriensis species group (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Scydmaeninae) Author Jałoszyński, Paweł text Zootaxa 2019 2019-06-14 4615 3 481 488 journal article 26482 10.11646/zootaxa.4615.3.4 84ed562e-82a2-435a-a512-c9df7de64be8 1175-5326 3246151 4132B507-0E63-4B73-83C7-4E007DE1BB41 Euconnus ( Cladoconnus ) matsuae Hoshina ( Figs 2 , 10–13, 26 ) Euconnus ( Cladoconnus ) matsuae Hoshina, 2004: 119 . Material studied . 1 ( JAPAN , HONSHŰ : HYÔGO PREF. ): Mt. Mimuroyama , 11.V.1997 , H. Hoshina leg. [identified by H. Hoshina ] (cPJ) . Emended diagnosis. Endophallus with two slender sclerites subequal to 3/4 length of median lobe, one sclerite with small subapical pointed tooth. Distribution ( Fig. 26 ). Japan , Central Honshű. Remarks. Externally ( Fig. 2 ) this species is almost identical to the remaining Far Eastern Cladoconnus , but its aedeagus ( Figs 10–13 ) is most unique and easily distinguishable from copulatory organs of all other species. The median lobe is conspicuously slender, the apex of the ventral apical plate is not arrowhead-shaped, but only slightly broadened and truncate, and the endophallus contains two very long and slender sclerites. None of these features can be found in any of the other Far Eastern species. Although the type material of E. matsuae was not studied, the aedeagus of the examined specimen is almost identical with that illustrated in the original description ( Hoshina 2004 ). Moreover, the studied specimen was collected together with a series of paratypes , but was overlooked during preparation of the description (re-discovered after publication), and consequently not included in the type series (H. Hoshina, email to PJ dated 27.04.2019 ).
