Length of each anterior wing 1.5–3.0 mm. Head: Postoccipital lobes oval or ellipsoidal, ocelli 3. Mesoscutellum lozenge-shaped with horizontal line. Metascutellum wide, short, subquadrate. Tibial spur formula 1, 3, 4.
Male genitalia: Segment VIII unmodified; segment IX well developed with long anterior apodemes; tergite X membranous or absent; subgenital plate and inferior appendages variable in species; aedeagus simple, tubular, with fused lateral processes in some species.
Habitat
. Adults of most species are found near streams with stony substrata.
