Identification.
Two species of anteaters are known in the region of PNCG, with each having different body size and color pattern of pelage.
Myrmecophaga tridactyla
is a large species and weighs up to
45 kg
. It has small ears and small eyes, long snout and an extremely long tongue; the thick pelage varies from dark gray and black, but with the paws white paws and some black bands at the top. The tail is robust and covered by hair.
