Distribution in Syria : Lake Al-ʿUtaybah drainage.—Distribution in River Basin: 3- Desert.—General distribution: Syria .—Distribution in Ecoregion: 440-Arabian Interior.—Habitat: This species inhabits freshwater lakes, marshes, and slowly flowing parts of streams. Freshwater. Economic importance. No commercial importance. Conservation. Conservation status in Syria : Unknown.—IUCN: CR ( IUCN 2023 ).—Threats: ABS, CON, CLI, HAB.—High sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—High priority for conservation action. Remarks. This species disappeared (extinct) due to the desiccation of Lake Al-Otaiba, south of Damascus , where it was first described.
