DESCRIPTION. — Distinguished by the following characters combined: prementum lacking setae, rostrum dorsally impressed also on basal half, sublateral carinae of rostrum for most part parallel, scape rather longer having hairs and no scales, setae at apex of elytra long, and elytral suture definitely darkened but narrowly only. Length: 9.5-19.0 mm. TYPE MATERIAL . — 1) E. serrulatus : holotype male, 12.5 x 5.1 mm , ‘Vati, Elytrurus serrulatus , C. Waterh. , type’, NHML . 2) E. erromangoanus : in Paris, not present. 3) E. rusticus : holotype male, 15.7 x 6.5 mm , ‘ New Hebrides [ Fiji in publication], Elytrurus rusticus Pasc. , type, Pascoe Coll.’, NHML . 4) E. tannae : in Paris, not present. Identified non-type specimens with BPBM , NHML , NZAC . MATERIAL EXAMINED . — Vanuatu . Efate , Erromango , Tanna , Aneityum. 86 specimens . ETYMOLOGY. — The specific name ‘serrulátus’ alludes to conspicuous teeth on the lateral costa of elytra. REMARKS. — Vati was the old name of Efate. As no specimens were apparently collected on Efate since the species was described from this island in 1877, its occurrence on the island has to be confirmed.
