New Ireland
: 2, 4.—General distribution: East Africa,
Madagascar
and Mascarenes east to Marshall, Gambier and Marquesas islands, north to southern
Japan
, south to Shark Bay (
Western Australia

New Caledonia
and Rapa. Found in shallow coastal waters, entering lagoons, estuaries and rivers,
0–3 m
depth. Freshwater, transitional water and marine.
