Description of a stunning new species of Phlegra Simon, 1876 from southern Spain and redescription of an enigmatic Phlegra species from northern Africa (Araneae: Salticidae)

Diagnosis:
Small to large species ranging from 2.9 to 9.0 mm in length. Sexes are usually alike in general body shape and colour, but the male differs by the presence of a dorsal abdominal scutum. Members of the genus
Phlegra
are differs from other members of subtribe
Aelurillina
by the following combination of characters: lateral cymbial process present (absent in other
Aelurillina
) (

); slightly robust first pair of legs, especially in males (other members of
Aelurillina
has equal thickness of all legs); body elongated, carapace relatively low (compare to other
Aelurillina
), ocular area three times shorter than carapace length (2–2.5 times in other
Aelurillina
); macrosetae on patella I are always absent.
Distribution:
Old World, with
Phlegra hentzi
(Marx, 1890)
being introduced to North America (WSC 2022).
