Aeschynanthus cordifolius Kraenzlin (1906: 282) , nom. illeg ., non Hooker (1859 : t. 5131). Type:— INDONESIA . Maluku Islands : Tidore , July 1884 , Curtis s.n. ( lectotype K000939502! , isolectotype E00155228! ; lectotype designated here) . Distribution: Endemic to Maluku Islands , Indonesia . Etymology: Named after Dr. G.V.S. Murthy, Former Scientist ‘G’, Botanical Survey of India , Southern Regional Centre, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu for his valuable contributions to the Indian flora. Notes: Kraenzlin (1906) described Aeschynanthus cordifolius based on specimens collected by Curtis from Tidore, Maluku Islands , Indonesia , but by practice of that time, he did not designate a holotype . Kraenzlin’s types are known to be held at B, BR, K, M and W ( Stafleu & Cowan 1979 ). Two herbarium sheets of A. cordifolius collected by Curtis from Tidore, Maluku Islands , Indonesia were traced, one each at E (E00155228) and K (K000939502). The best one and better-preserved specimen K000831702, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
