Host.
Poaceae
:
Glyceria melicaria
(Michx.) F.T. Hubbard.
Leaf mine.
Yellowish-green, at the tip of the leaf, occupying its full width; filled with closely spaced, granular frass. The single mine we found contained two larvae. It was on the abaxial leaf surface, but the leaf was twisted so that the mined portion faced upward.
Puparium.
Brown; formed outside the mine.
Comments.
Apart from the records of
Agromyza parca
presented in this paper, this is the first record of a
North
American agromyzid from
Glyceria
, although several species that occur here have been reared from other
Glyceria
species in Europe (
Ellis 2016
). Those in the genus
Agromyza
include
A
. albipennis
Meigen
,
A
. lucida
Hendel
,
A
. nigrella
(Rondani)
, and
A
. nigripes
Meigen. Of
these, this female is only similar to
A
. lucida
, having a short, round first flagellomere, paler tibiae, and brown hairs on a white calypter, but males would be required to verify identity. While initial study indicates that
A
. lucida
is highly similar to
A
. parca
, the specific boundaries of the taxa in this species group require much additional study to clarify concepts and relationships.
