Biology.
Apterae are black, covered with white wax (
Essig, 1932
), on the undersurface of leaves along ribs (
Takahashi, 1959
), often making trees sooty black (
Hille Ris Lambers, 1966
). Populations in California are anholocyclic (
Blackman & Eastop, 1994
).
