COMMENTS: Mayr started his collecting expedition to the Herzog mountain range in Malalo near Salamoa [Salamaua], on
7 May 1929
. The village Dawong (
1400m
a.s.l.) was the main base on this trip between
10 May and 3 June 1929
. Mayr left Salamoa on
12 June 1929
(see
Mayr 1931: 640–646
,
Haffer 1997: 447
).
Mayr (1931)
accidentally referred to the male bird as a female; Mayr number 1474, the
holotype
, is a male bird on the label.
Frith and Frith (2004: 277)
subsequently referred to the wrong specimen as
holotype
.
