Distribution and ecology:— Lowlands and lower montane zone of Costa Rica (Isla de Cocos), Panama , Cuba , Puerto Rico , Grenada , Colombia , Venezuela , Trinidad , Guyana , Suriname , French Guiana, Ecuador , Peru , Bolivia , and Amazonian and southeastern Brazil . The species is widespread but apparently nowhere common, in humid forests, often near streams or along humid road banks, mostly at 400–1200 m but down to 100 m in Panama and 20 m in Brazil , and up to 2450 m in Bolivia .
