The specific name honors the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon [1460-1521] who died in Cuba of wounds sustained during an expedition against the Carib Indians of Guadeloupe. Distribution. This species is known only from two specimens collected in 1963 in two localities in Florida, along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico [see Will 2002a: Fig. 5]. Records. USA : FL
