Ecology: —Common; terrestrial on moist riverbanks, steep, wet road banks, and in humid forests, sometimes forming dense colonies; to 1000 m . Notes: —Among the erect-stemmed species from Bolivia , only this and Selaginella haematodes have red stems. Selaginella erythropus is a smaller plant than S. haematodes , with more irregularly arranged branches.
