Description
Male.
Body (
Figure 2B
) yellowish reddish brown, mouthparts and tarsi lighter; BL 2.80. Head (

) longer than wide, HL 0.55, HW 0.51. Vertexal foveae indistinct, anterior edge of foveae located slightly anterior to level of posterior margin of eyes; LE: LP = 1.16: 1. Eyes moderately developed, prominent, each comprises about 20 facets. Antennae with scapes thick and large; pedicels larger than antennomeres III, III–V subequal in width, VI–VIII subequal in width, slightly narrower than V, IX–XI (
Figure 5E
) strongly clubbed; semi-membranous apophysis on antennomere IX as in
Figure 7K
; antennomere X slightly wider than long; XI with single truncate basal protuberance sparsely covered with long apical setae.
Pronotum longer than wide, PL 0.63, PW 0.58. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.86, EW 1.02. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.76, AW 0.89; tergite IV 3.4 times as long as next. Length of aedeagus (
Figure 8K
) 0.17.
Female.
Similar to male in size: BL 2.91, HL 0.56, HW 0.52, PL 0.62, PW 0.59. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.77, EW 0.98, AL 0.89, AW 0.96. Eyes each comprises about 12 facets.
Habitat and distribution
Sifted from the mixed leaf litter of a broad-leaved forest. Southwest
China
(
Yunnan
).
Etymology
The species name is dedicated to Liang Tang, in recognition of his efforts in collecting the
type
material.
Remarks
The new species and
S
.
montanus
are smaller species within the group of species near
S
.
grandis
(see remarks under
S
.
magnus
), with body size ranging from
2.55 to 2.80 mm
. They can be readily separated by the larger body size, the apophysis of antennomere IX located in posterior half, the basal protuberance of antennomere XI abruptly truncate apically, and aedeagus less rounded in
S
.
tangliangi
.
