Status in Afghanistan . First record from Afghanistan by McClelland (1842: 574) as Glyptosternon reticulatus ; confirmed by Coad (1981: 8 ; 2014: 279 ; 2015: 229).—Afghanistan materials: FMNH. Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan :Amu Darya, Bamian River, Kabul River drainages.—General distribution: South Asia: upper Indus River basin ( Afghanistan , Tadzhikistan , Pakistan and India ).—Habitat: This species is a mountain stream species. It occurs in fast-flowing rivers and streams in mountainous areas, clinging to stones and rocks over sandy and sandstone bottoms; it is also found in some mountain and piedmont reservoirs. Freshwater. Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance. Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan : Unknown.—IUCN: LC ( Karimov 2020f ).—Threats: FIT, CLI, CON, ABS, HAB, EUT.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.— Decline status: Significant decline.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
