New Ireland : 1, 2, 4.— General distribution: Red Sea , East and South Africa east to Hawaiian and Pitcairn islands , north to southern Japan , south to northern Australia , Lord Howe and Kermadec islands , Tonga and Rapa. Solitary or in small groups, cryptic in crevices during the day, in relatively clear and silty waters on reef flats, lagoon and seaward coral and rocky reefs, 0–48 m depth. Marine .
