Madagascar
and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian and Marquesas islands, north to southern
Japan
and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern
Australia

New Caledonia

Tonga
. Found in coral reefs, hiding in holes and crevices during the day,
3–80 m
depth. Marine.
