A new species of Brasineura Silva-Neto & García Aldrete (Psocodea, ‘ Psocoptera’, Ptiloneuridae), with comments on morphological variation in B. troglophilica and a revised generic diagnosis Author Neto, Alberto Moreira Da Silva Author García Aldrete, Alfonso N. ( Figs 1–8 ) Diagnosis (Male). Close to B. troglophilica , from which it differs in having the hypandrium decidedly projected posteriorly in the middle, having an anterior concavity on each side; the paraprocts are elongate and distally curved outward; the side struts of the phallosome, continuous with the external parameres are much slenderer than in the former species, and the anterior and posterior endophallic sclerites are distinct from B. troglophilica . Color (of parts mounted on a slide and in 80 % ethanol). Body pale yellow, with brown and pale brown areas as indicated below. Compound eyes black, ocelli hyaline, with ochre centripetal crescents; head pattern ( Fig. 1 ). Legs with coxae, trochanters and femora creamy white, tibiae and tarsomeres pale yellow. Fore wings almost hyaline ( Fig. 2 ); a brown spot at confluence of Cu2–1A; veins brown. Hind wing ( Fig. 3 ), almost hyaline throughout, veins brown. Morphology. Compound eyes with interommatidial setae. Outer cusp of lacinial tip broad, with five denticles and markedly sclerotized ( Fig. 4 ). Fore wing pterostigma elongate, constricted proximally, widest in the middle. Areola postica tall, broadly triangular, with apex rounded. Rs almost straight, R2+3 and R4+5 slightly sinuous. M stem slightly concave proximally, then almost straight. M of six branches, with M6 forked ( Fig. 2 ; see also variation of the paratype below). Hind wing Rs-M joined for a distance, Rs 2-branched, M 4-branched. Paraprocts ( Fig. 5 ) stout, broad, elongate, distally curved outward, sensory fields with 35–36 trichobothria on basal rosettes; setae as illustrated. Epiproct ( Fig. 5 ) anteriorly convex, with one small concave area on each antero-lateral corner, sides converging to round posterior border; a long seta mesally near each side, other setae as illustrated. Hypandrium ( Fig. 6 ) of one sclerite, slightly concave anteriorly, with anterior border strongly sclerotized; one concave area on each antero-lateral corner, resulting in a pair of projections on each side, posterior process straight, blunt ended, with setae as illustrated. Phallosome ( Fig. 7 ) with side struts continuous with external parameres, these sinuous, posteriorly directed, distally pointed, bearing mesally a field of spines near inner edge, as illustrated. A pair of lateral extensions of the phallobase; two pairs of endophallic sclerites; anterior pair elongate, each arm slender, bow-shaped, crossing in the middle, basally wide, narrowing to end; posterior pair basally fused to form a narrow V-shaped structure, each arm proximally slender, widening posteriorly, distally forked, with two pointed processes on inner side, forming an almost closed circle, enclosing a membrane with pores.
