Medium-sized snail (shell up to 20 mm high). Shell is usually brown, apex is pointed, and animal itself is yellow, or green, with black spots. For more details see Welter-Schultes (2012: 53 , figure in the middle of the page). Distribution and ecology . Palearctic species up to 2700 m .a.s.l, in Serbia up to 800 m . a.s.l. Prefers smaller stagnant and slow-flowing waters, with impacts of groundwaters, on a sandy, gravel or rocky substrate. Can endure drought periods ( Welter-Schultes 2012 ). One of the most common freshwater snails in Serbia . It was recorded in a wide variety of habitats, including the Danube, Sava, Drina, Jadar, Zapadna Morava, Južna Morava, Temska, Visočica, Toplica, Mlava, Trešnjica and Zamna Rivers , streams on Fruška Gora Mtn., Zasavica Wetland, ponds near the Ludaš Lake etc. Other remarks . Shell morphology is fairly constant, yet in some cases, it can be misidentified as Ampullaceana balthica ( Glöer 2019 ) . The taxonomy is not fully resolved yet (MolluscaBase 2021). On the IUCN Red List it has been assessed as LC ( von Proschwitz 2011 a ). Genus Radix Montfort, 1810
