Taxonomic comments.
This species is distinctive from the other species in that it possesses low, weakly convex plates on the abactinal surface rather than the strongly convex plates (
Figs. 16
A, B) observed in most other
Neoferdina
species. Although
N. glyptodisca
possesses bare convex plates on the abactinal surface, the marginal and abactinal plates are very similar to those in
Paraferdina sohariae
(
Marsh and Price 1991:
Fig. 4
). Should the bare abactinal plates character be discovered to significantly vary, these two species might be considered closely related.
