Way Down South: The milliped family Parajulidae (Julida: Parajulini) in Mexico and Central America; first records from El Salvador and the Baja California Peninsula Author Shelley, Rowland M. text Zootaxa 2008 1893 1 37 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.184362 15cd38b4-6c34-48c9-9bc1-a3b33c18220f 1175-5326 184362 Genus Mexicoiulus Verhoeff, 1926 Mexicoiulus Verhoeff, 1926:65 , 66–67. Jeekel, 1971 :166 . Hoffman, 1999 :158 . Type species . M. dampfi Verhoeff, 1926 , by monotypy. Potential diagnostic features (based on Verhoeff 1926). Posterior gonopod without anterior branch, with one caudal projection bending strongly subanteriad distally; solenomere falcate. Remarks . Loomis (1968a) placed Mexicoiulus in synonymy under Parajulus on the advice of N. B. Causey, and Hoffman (1980) maintained this status. However, Hoffman (1999) resurrected the taxon and stated that prior synonymies were incorrect; I concur with this action. Based on similarities to aspects of Verhoeff's illustrations (1926:70, figs. 9–10), I tentatively group " P ." stylifer , " P ." r. rosanus Chamberlin, 1943 , and " P ." rosanus gyratus Loomis, 1971 , with M. dampfi , but I retain them in " Parajulus " and do not formalize combination with Mexicoiulus .
