COMMENTS:
Neumann (1906a: 258)
had earlier discussed his single specimen and specimens of other subspecies of
S. spilonotus
, refraining from introducing a new name based on a single specimen. Later, in the original description of
erlangeri
,
Neumann (1907b: 52)
designated his single specimen as the type, saying that it was in the Rothschild Collection. In addition, he had by that time examined
five specimens
from Gotola, Djam- jam, in the collection of Baron Erlanger (Ingelheim) and one from Kaffa in BMNH (London); those specimens are
paratypes
.
