Etymology. Greek adjective for “dramatic”. Diagnosis. Ivory, boldly striped with dark brown across tylus, crown and twice across eyes, twice on anterior margin of pronotum, and with 7 longitudinal stripes extending backwards, with only median line meeting posterior transverse band; scutellum and base of tegmen black with contrasting yellow ridges on scutellum and second claval vein, ivory between vein bases; rest of tegmen hyaline with dark brown veins ( Fig. 14 A); underside with brown stripes on frontal arcs, across gena, and on pleura just below costa of folded tegmina; midline of face broadly black with oval orange disc near tip of head; legs with 2 longitudinal bands on femur, 2 transverse bands on tibia, tarsi black with pale marks towards tip of each tarsomere on upper surface. Ovipositor blade 0.7 mm long, a third as wide as long, dorsal margin straight but shallowly emarginate at middle for half its length, tip bluntly pointed ( Fig. 17K ). Length: male 5.0– 5.1 mm ; female 5.5 mm . Types . Holotype male, [BORNEO:] SARAWAK - Gunong Mulu N. Pk., Long Pala (base) 70 m , site 16, March (J.D. Holloway) 324450, RGS Mulu exped. B.M. 1978–206; alluv./second. for., MV-on batu-canopy. Paratypes : 1 female , same data as holotype ; 1 male , same park, base camp, May–Aug. 1978 (P.M. Hammond & J.E. Marshall ) B.M. 1978–49. All types in BMNH. Remarks. This species keys to the type-species of the genus, M. valida Melichar from Ceylon ( Maa 1963 ), but has the heiroglyphic markings of the dorsum as in M. rubrolineata Maa from Thailand . The markings, however, are blackish rather than red.
