Ten new species of the genus Phortica from the Afrotropical and Oriental regions (Diptera: Drosophilidae) Author Chen, Hongwei Author Máca, Jan text Zootaxa 2012 3478 493 509 journal article 10.5281/zenodo.282314 403ccc09-b698-4ed4-8950-195877c6fdc7 1175-5326 282314 Phortica ( Phortica ) ryukyuensis Chen , sp. nov. ( Figs 29–32 ) Diagnosis. This species is similar to P. orientalis (Hendel, 1914) from eastern to southern China in the characters of paramere and aedeagus, but can be distinguished from it by two characters of gonopods: the anterior processes sclerotized, with apical branch ( Fig. 31 , a) slightly longer than submedian branch ( Fig. 31 , b); the posterior processes nearly membranous, with spherical, distal part slightly broader then base ( Fig. 31 , c). On the contrary, in P. orientalis : apical branch of sclerotized processes much longer than submedian branch; the base of membranous process distinctly thinned, stalk-shaped [see Fig. 2 D in Okada 1977 ; cited as Amiota ( Phortica ) antheria ]. Description. Frons brownish yellow, with a few thin, sparse interfrontal setae. Pedicel and first flagellomere yellow. Face grayish brown. Clypeus white medially, dark brown laterally. Thorax yellow, with dark brown patches and pollinose pattern. Scutellum yellow, with brown patch medially. Legs yellow, with 3 brown rings on each tibia. All abdominal tergites yellow; second tergite with 1 small, brown patch on lateral margin and 1 triangular dark brown patch submedially each side; third and fourth tergite each with medially and laterally slightly protruded, sublaterally nearly interrupted, dark brown band on posterior margin; fifth and sixth tergites each with short, blackish band medially along posterior margin. Male terminalia: Epandrium pubescent anteroventrally, with ca. 13–14 setae on dorsal to posterolateral portion each side ( Fig. 29 ). Surstylus lacking pubescence, with several setae and wedge-shaped prensisetae ( Fig. 29 ). Additional (hypocercal) plate pubescent and connected to tenth sternite ( Fig. 30 ). Hypandrial posterolateral lobe lacking pubescence ( Fig. 31 ). Paramere pubescent submedially, flattened distally, with 2 sensilla and 3 teeth apically, and 1 triangular lobe-shaped process medially ( Fig. 32 ). Aedeagus with 1 pair of slightly sclerotized bridges connecting it to the gonopod. FIGURES 29–32. Phortica ( Phortica ) ryukyuensis Chen , sp. nov. , male terminalia: 29. Epandrium, cercus and surstylus (lateral view); 30. tenth sternite and additional plate (frontal view); 31. hypandrium, gonopods, aedeagus and aedeagal apodeme (lateral view); 32. paramere.
