It was described from Formosa ( Tainan , Takao) and was further recorded from the Palaearctic Region; Egypt , Iraq , Israel : Afrotropical Region; Sudan , Zimbabwe : Oriental Region; Cambodia , Nepal , Thailand : Australasian Region; New Guinea , ( Spencer 1973a ; Papp 1984a ; Deeming 2006 ; Černý 2023). Spencer (1973a: 274 , 1990 ; Benavent-Corai 2005 ) reported that the host plants of P. spicata are maize ( Zea mays L.) ( Poaceae ), wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) ( Poaceae ), sugar cane ( Saccharum officinarum L.) ( Poaceae ), Panicum miliaceum L. ( Poaceae ) and in Hawaii , 14 species of wild grasses.
