Monné & Giesbert (1992: 252)
considered
Caudelytra quadrispinosa
Franz, 1954
as a synonym of
Mecynome aenescens
Bates, 1885
. However, examination of material from
El Salvador
, Department of Santa Ana (the
type
locality of
C. quadrispinosa
is Monte Cristo, in the same Department), allowed us to propose that this species be revalidated and transferred to the genus
Mecynome
.
Mecynome quadrispinosus
(
Fig. 4
) differs from
M. aenescens
(
Fig. 5
) by the elytral apices projected in a long and acute spine, and the fifth urotergite with a deep median, arcuate emargination and bispinose at the angles. In
M. aenescens
, based on the description of
Bates (1885: 335)
, the elytral apices are subacuminate, and the fifth urotergite is rounded at its apex.
