New and little known digger wasps of the genus Ammophila W. Kirby, 1798 (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Sphecidae) from Central Asia Author Danilov, Yuriy N. text Zootaxa 2015 3964 5 537 545 journal article 10.11646/zootaxa.3964.5.3 5ec3f43c-531b-4b72-8d9a-a1a92d01a31f 1175-5326 242030 479A8874-E602-4AD8-A0FD-99651D16DBEA Ammophila barkalovi Danilov sp.nov. ( Figs 1–7 ) Diagnosis. The female and male of the new species are most similar to Ammophila sabulosa ( Linnaeus, 1758 ) and A. formosensis Tsuneki, 1967 , but differ from A. sabulosa in having sparse short appressed white setae along the midline of the propodeal enclosure (propodeal enclosure all covered with long dense setae in A. sabulosa ), the mesopleuron covered with dense appressed silvery setae (mesopleuron only with a patch of appressed silvery setae in A. sabulosa ). Ammophila formosensis differs from the new species in having a well-developed supra-antennal lamellate projection (projection less developed in the new species: less than the diameter of the midocellus in the male, absent in the female). Description. Female. Body length 15–17 mm . Head . Mandible black. Median lobe of clypeus elongate ( Figs 4, 5 ). Head except mandible covered with long erect white setae, ventral margin of clypeus and vertex with a few black setae. Clypeus (except ventral margin), subantennal area, paraocular area, and gena covered with appressed silvery setae. Supra-antennal lamellate projection absent. Flagellomeres black. Male. Body length 16 mm . Head . Mandible black. Clypeus elongate, covered with dense, appressed silvery setae. Gena covered with sparse, appressed silvery setae. Supra-antennal lamellate projection poorly developed, lower than diameter of midocellus. Flagellomeres black. Mesosoma (female and male). Pronotum not elongate; covered with sparse appressed silvery setae and felted brown pubescence. Pronotal lobe covered with dense, appressed silvery setae. Mesoscutum with sparse irregular superficial foveae and faintly rugose, covered with sparse appressed silvery setae, felted brown pubescence and long erect white setae. Mesopleuron and propodeum covered with dense, appressed silvery setae and sparse long, erect white setae. Propodeal enclosure obliquely striate, covered with sparse short, appressed white setae, posterolaterally glabrous ( Fig. 6 ). Wings . Hyaline with slightly darker apical part; wing venation dark brown. Legs . Black, pruinose. Metasoma . S1 (petiole) black, S5–S6 and T5–T 6 in the female (S5–S7 and T5–T 7 in the male) black, with metallic blue shine; T1–T4, S2–S4 red. Male genitalia as illustrated ( Fig. 7 ). Material examined. .
