, Suppl. material 1
Chorology
.
Stenus hypoproditor
is distributed from the northeastern Mediterranean, Southeast Europe, Turkey, and Iran as far east as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. In Iran, it is known from the northwest (Fig.
3
) only. The find in the northwestern Zagros Mountains at about 36°59'N constitutes the southernmost record of this species. Further to the south,
Stenus hypoproditor
is replaced by the allopatric relative
Stenus nodipes
.
Biogeographical characterization.
Kastcheev and Puthz (2011
: 454) consider
Stenus hypoproditor
to be a Mediterranean species. According to the Pleistocene refuge theory, it can be regarded as an expansive Pontomediterranean faunal element.
