Basionym: Tournefortia fuliginosa Kunth , Nov. Gen. Sp. (quarto ed.) 3: 81. 1818. Type:— VENEZUELA . “Crescit cum praecedente?” i.e. “Crescit prope Cumaná et Bordones”, s. dat., A . J . A . Bonpland & F . W . H . A . von Humboldt s.n. ( lectotype : P00670712 , image!, designated here; isolectotypes: P00136376 , image!, P00136377 , image!, P00136378 , image!) . Distribution.— Peru , Ecuador , Colombia , Venezuela , Jamaica . Notes.— In the original description, Kunth (1818: 81) did not designate any material as a basis for the establishment of Tournefortia fuliginosa . However, on checking the material housed at P, four specimens of Bonpland & Humboldt s.n. were found, all of them labeled as type specimens (P00136376, P00136377, P00136378, and P00670712). Nonetheless, the specimen with barcode P00670712, obtained in Venezuela and even, with the expression Crescit cum praecedente? , the same used in the protologue, and the most complete, with handwriting in the label stating that it is the type. For this reason, the material P00670712 is designated here as the lectotype for T. fuliginosa .
