Included species. Talitrus includes 1 species: T. saltator ( Montagu, 1808 ) . Diagnosis (based on adult male and female). Antenna 1 shorter than peduncular article 5 of antenna 2. Antenna 2 peduncle slender. Mandible left lacinia mobilis with 4 teeth. Maxilliped palp article 2 with welldeveloped lobe; article 4 reduced, button-shaped. Gnathopod 1 simple; posterior margin of merus, carpus and propodus without palmate lobes . Gnathopod 2 mitten-shaped ; dactylus not attenuated. Pereopods cuspidactylate. Pereopods 6 and 7 not sexually dimorphic. Pereopod 4 dactylus thickened proximally with notch midway along posterior margin. Pleopods 1–3 well developed. Uropod 1 peduncle with or without distolateral robust seta; outer ramus with marginal robust setae. Telson apically incised with at least 10 apical robust setae per lobe. Remarks. Talitrus belongs to the Talitrus group of 15 genera ( Lowry & Coleman 2012 ) categorized by males with mitten-shaped second gnathopods. Talitrus is the only supralittoral genus in the group. Based on the lack of palmate lobes on the posterior margin of gnathopod and the presence of robust setae on the outer ramus of uropod 1 Talitrus is similar to the South Pacific genus Brevitalitrus Bousfield, 1971 .
