This species commonly occurs as parasites on marine fish-eating birds ( Bequaert 1957 ; Whiteman et al . 2006 ). In the Galápagos , adults have been found on flightless cormorants and pelicans ( Harmon et al . 1984 –85; Whiteman et al . 2006 ).
