Smittia dupla Tokunaga, 1964: 522 , pro parte, females not males. Pseudosmittia dupla (Tokunaga) ; Cranston & Martin, 1989: 262 , pro parte. Type material : holotype female, PALAU (BELAU): Koror Island, at light , allotype of P . dupla , 29.v.1957 , C. W. Sabrosky ( USNM ) . Diagnostic characters : The strongly flask-shaped flagellomeres 3 and 4 combined with unbranched postcubitus, long costal extension, slightly curved Cu 1 , relatively low VR, only 5 dorsocentral setae, about 8 sensilla clavata at the apex of the third palpomere, and nearly undivided tergite IX should serve to separate the species from other species of the genus. Etymology : The species is named in honor of Dr. M. Tokunaga, the author of P . dupla as well as most of the species in this group. Female imago (n = 1) Total length 1.36 mm . Wing length 0.73 mm . Total length/wing length 1.88. Wing length/length of profemur 3.43. Coloration yellow with faint fuscous vittae, postnotum brown, legs fuscous, abdomen black. Head. AR 0.41. Lengths (in µm) of flagellomeres: 80, 62, 59, 71, 110. Apical antennal seta broken, flagellomeres 3 and 4 conspicuously flask-shaped. Temporal setae 4, including 2 inner and 2 outer verticals. Clypeus with about 6 setae. Tentorium 96 µm long, 11 µm wide. Stipes not measurable. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 23, 27, 32, 41, 78. Third palpomere with 8 scalpellate sensilla clavata. Thorax. Antepronotum not observable. Dorsocentrals 5, acrostichals 2, prealars at least 2. Scutellum with 4 setae. Wing. VR 1.43. No anal lobe. Costal extension 91 µm long. R 4+5 ending well proximal of apex of M 3+4 ; Cu 1 curved. Brachiolum with 1 seta, costa between FR and apex of R 4+5 with 8 non-marginal setae, costal extension with 9 non-marginal setae, R with 5, R 1 with 1, R 4+5 with 3 setae. Legs. Spur of front tibia 25 µm long, spurs of middle tibia both 16 µm long, of hind tibia 43 µm and 18 µm long. Width at apex of front and middle tibia each 24–25 µm, of hind tibia 34 µm. Comb of 12 setae, shortest setae 23 µm long, longest setae 37 µm. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 62 . TABLE 62. Lengths (in µm) and proportions of legs of Pseudosmittia tokunagai sp. n. , female (n = 1).

Abdomen. Tergite I without setae, T II–VIII each with about 8–10 setae. Sternite I and II bare, S III–VI each with about 4 setae, S VII with 6 setae, S VIII with 26 setae. Genitalia. Gonocoxite IX with 2 strong and 2 weak setae, posterior elongation not observed. Tergite IX apparently undivided with a weak caudal concavity, with altogether 7 setae. Apodeme against gonocoxite 75 µm long. Seminal capsule dark, ovoid; 50 µm long, 39 µm wide, microtrichia not observed. Notum 55 µm long. Pupa and larva Unknown. Remarks The undivided tergite IX and relatively high leg and venarium ratios indicate that this female belongs near P. capicola . The genitalia is not in a condition to allow for drawing. Distribution The species is only known from the type locality in Palau .
